Vision Statement:
In Design Technology pupils combine technological knowledge and practical skills with creative thinking to design and model outcomes and systems that meet human needs whilst respecting their surroundings and the environment. They will learn how modern industrial practices impact the world in which they live. They learn to think creatively and contribute to improve the quality of life, solving problems as individuals and members of a team.
The courses and projects offered in Design Technology work towards achieving the following aims:
- To stimulate and maintain student’s interest, enjoyment, curiosity and concerns about technological aspects of the world in which they live.
- To develop students’ knowledge, independence, morals, understanding, modelling skills, principles and vocabulary in Design Technology, enabling them to become competent and confident in:
- Analysing real life problems and situations to create design briefs and specifications.
- Designing and developing a range of ideas through the application of drawing, CAD, CAM and modelling to a high standard of outcome.
- Evaluating their own ideas and those designed by others.
- To employ teaching methods and resources that allow all students to have equal access to Design Technology and to experience success and enjoyment in their work.
